District attorney hired as county counsel

Tuesday, April 1 — Lassen County District Attorney Bob Burns will be assuming a new role as county counsel.

After the Lassen County Board of Supervisors interviewed two candidates in closed session on Tuesday, April 1, county executive officer Richard Egan reported the board unanimously directed him to negotiate an employment contract with Burns and bring it back as soon as possible.

Burns, who announced he would not be running for district attorney earlier this year, will fill the position that is being vacated by Rhetta VanderPloeg, whose last day is May 16.

Four people originally applied for the job, however, two candidates backed out.
