Thursday, April 3, 2014 — After search and rescue teams conducted a search, a 94-year-old Bieber man was found dead a short distance from his vehicle in the North County area.
According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Carl Parks, and his wife, Marian Parks, 85, were stuck on Forest Service Road Number 54, located off County Road A-2 near Bieber.
Carl Parks had left the vehicle (assuming to get help), but the time of the vehicle getting stuck and when he exited the car are unknown at this time.
Law enforcement responded at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 2 when a person in the area found Marian Parks in the vehicle under distress.
She was immediately taken to an area hospital for medical treatment and multiple agencies including the Lassen County Search and Rescue, the California Highway Patrol Air Operations (Redding Division), CalFire, the United States Forest Service and volunteers from local fire districts began a search for Carl Parks.
He was found at approximately 3:30 p.m., a short distance from where the vehicle was located.
Investigation into the circumstances of the death will be ongoing and the official cause will be determined after an autopsy is performed.
