Be aware of phone scams
Tuesday, May 6 — The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving an abundance of calls for service relating to identity theft, particularly a scam targeting local residents telling them they have won a large amount of money.
According to a press release, an individual claiming to be affiliated with Publisher’s Clearing House calls the listener and says he or she has won money but in order to receive the winnings, they must send a sum of money and several Green Dot cards to a specific location.
The sheriff’s office advises the public to not send any money to any organization before first checking its legitimacy. If the public should have any questions or concerns, they can call the sheriff’s office at 257-6121.
