Tuesday, July 8, 2014 — Being born at 26 weeks gestation, Baby Asher has experienced quite a few ups and downs — at one point he wasn’t expected to make it — but at two months old, the infant has proven he is a fighter.
Baby Asher has been in the NICU at Renown Medical Center in Reno since his April 24 birth in the parking lot of the Child Development Center at Sierra Army Depot.
He has fought two bouts of pneumonia and had surgery to close a hole in his heart, which was so big the doctor had to use two titanium clips, according to his mother, Charlene Norvell.
The hole may have contributed to the first case of pneumonia as it caused fluid to flow into his lungs, Norvell said.
Four weeks ago, Asher had a staph infection and what is believed to be his second case of pneumonia.
