Staff, inmates injured in Herlong prison melees
Monday, July 28 — Eight staff members and seven inmates were injured at the Federal Correctional Institution, Herlong during a series of fights that broke out in various parts of the institution about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 27.
Two staff members were treated for their injuries and released from a local hospital, and seven inmates were also treated and released.
According to a press release from FCI, Herlong, “The incident was successfully contained by the quick response of staff. The institution is secure, and all inmates have been accounted for. At no time was the public in danger, and the incident is under investigation.”
The Federal Correctional Institution houses medium-security level inmates and is located about 50 miles north of Reno, Nevada.
