Highway 89 still closed due to wildfire

Sunday, Aug. 3 — Highway 89 remains closed from the junction of Highway 44 to the junction of Highway 299 in Shasta County due to a wildfire. 

According to inciweb, the Eiler fire, burning on the Lassen National Forest, has burned 23,000 acres. It has forced road closures and evacuations have been issued for Johnson Park, Cassel, Big Eddie Estates and an evacuation adivsory has been issued for Burney. Thousand Lakes Wilderness is closed, as is the Pacific Crest Trail between Highway 44 and 299. 

The Bald Fire is burning eight miles southeast of Fall River Mills and has burned 35,000 acres. It is approximately 35 percent contained. Planned actions include holding the fireline and protecting structures. Active fire is projected to spread mostly to the east and southeast and possibly to the north and northeast. Extreme fire behavior is likely.
