Sexual assault investigation leads to arrest
February 20 - A Susanville man was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on a $200,000 bail after law enforcement conducted an investigation into a reported sexual assault.
Jose Escobar, 40, of Susanville, was arrested at approximately 7:34 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, after officers from the Susanville Police Department executed an arrest warrant at his residence on S. Weatherlow Street. According to a press release from the Susanville Police Department, at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, officers responded to another residence on S. Weatherlow Street for a report of a prior sexual assault.
Upon arrival, officers contacted a woman who said she had been sexually assaulted and alleged Escobar was the suspect. The victim was later transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center for treatment.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained from Lassen Superior Court.
