STUDENT ROUND UP

Long Valley Charter School is hosting a Student Round-Up this Thursday, May 22. According to director Cindy Henry, the event is from 10 to 11 a.m. at 629 Main St. in Susanville. All prospective students and families are welcome to join a tour of the facilities and learn about their school. For more information, call 257-7300.

AND THE WINNERS WERE...

We had lots of drawing tickets entered during this year’s Customer Appreciation Days event. The lucky winners of the $500 shopping spree were: Kelley Kelley and Patricia Ferne, each winning a $100 shopping spree; David Peek, Frank Robberson, Donna Barbour, Robert Draughon, Mary Mosby and Ray Mallery, each winning a $50 shopping spree.

There were also many in store drawings, too. Treats Natural Pet Marketplace gifted a chameleon habitat to Chris House. Billington Ace Hardware gifted a $100 store gift certificate to Suzanne Duran. Sierra Jewelry gifted Michael Nye a $250 store gift certificate, Patricia Ferne won a glass vase and Julia Cathey won a strand of pearls.

Thanks to all the participating businesses and those who shopped locally and entered the drawings.

BANK HOSTS COMMUNITY FORUM

The public is invited to attend a community forum hosted by Plumas Bank from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

tonight, Tuesday, May 6 at its branch at 3000 Riverside Drive in Susanville. The Lassen Aurora Network will lead the discussion centering on reducing the stigma against mental illness. Topics will include the network's history, challenges, strengths and what they can do for you. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 257-5013.

MARGARITA FEST TIME

Soroptimist of Susanville is hosting their third annual Margarita Fest this Friday night, May 9. Tickets are limited, and are available at Margie's Book Nook and The UPS Store in Susanville. The fun starts at 6 p.m. at Jensen Hall at the fairgrounds. There will be a silent auction, drawings and live music.

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY

Lassen Motor Parts/NAPA in Susanville is having their very own Customer Appreciation Day this Thursday, May 8. They will be having a filter and tool sale all week long, with storewide savings on Thursday. There will be lunch and refreshments from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day as well.

Speaking of Lassen Motor Parts, did you know they now carry a wide variety of water toys for the lake? Whether it's water trampolines, life vests, towables, inflatables or fishing items, they have it all.

MUFFINS AND MIMOSA'S 

Mother's Day is this Sunday. You can take Mom out to her favorite garden, Every Bloomin' Thing in Johnstonville, for some muffins and mimosa's in the garden! From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. they will be treating moms to some delicious treats.

DOGS DAY OUT

SitSpot Canine Center in Susanville is hosting a Dogs Day Out benefit from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17. The benefit sponsored by SitSpot, LMUD and the Lassen County Future Farmers of America (FFA) is to assist 11 Lassen County FFA members travel to Louisville, Ky. in October to participate in the National FFA Conventions. There will be all kinds of fun events for every age dog, like dunking for hot dogs, waggiest tail, etc. For more information, call 253-3245. SitSpot is located at 472-380 Johnstonville Road, near the airport.

WEEKS ROSES AND HANGING BASKETS

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Martin’s Produce and Greenhouse has Weeks Roses and plenty of colorful hanging baskets to put a smile on your Mom’s face! Wander through the many greenhouses and browse the huge selection of flowers, vegetables and berry bushes, grown locally. Martin’s also carries potting soil and fertilizers. If you are not sure what Mom wants, they have gift certificates available. They are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and are located at 721-425 Cappezoli Lane in Standish. PENNY BOWL-A-THON

Local Lassen High School student Brenna Hunrath is working to fulfill a dream of hers to run cross country in Australia. To help her raise the funds she will need, she is doing a Penny Bowl-A-Thon at 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 10. You can donate per pin she knocks down; it can be as little as a penny per pin. To help Brenna, you can give her a call at 260-0938.

MOTHER’S DAY DINING

Get mom out of the kitchen this Mother’s Day and take her to one of the many local restaurants offering delicious dinner specials. Diamond Mountain Casino, Lassen Ale Works, The White House Restaraunt and Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant have all put together menu’s that mom will surely enjoy. Be sure to see their ads in this week’s paper for more information.

WELCOME NEW OWNERS

Eileen Sader, new owner of Winje’s Emporium and Hotel on Main Street in Doyle, is pleased to announce the 100-year-old establishment reopened for business.
