Public comment period runs for another week on Dyer Timber Harvest Plan

Jan. 23, 2007 — A state review team recommended denial of the Dyer Mountain Associates timber harvest plan because approval could potentially further development of the four-season resort planned at Dyer Mountain. According to Bill Schultz, CDF’s deputy chief for forest practice in Redding, the review team found some things in the timber harvest plan proposals that potentially could further the project that has not yet been approved by the county.
 

County will pay $450 an hour for doctor to testify in gruesome 1981 murder retri

Jan. 23, 2007 — The prosecution will pay $450 an hour for a doctor to testify at the retrial of Benjamin Wai Silva for a gruesome 1981 murder in Lassen County, and more expenses are expected.

Jan. 23, 2007 — A parolee at large surrendered to law enforcement officers at about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, after officers from several agencies surrounded the Monrovia Avenue house where they believed he had been staying.
  

Supervisors put off increasing their own pay

Jan. 23, 2007 — Instead of taking a more than $10,000 a year raise, members of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors will wait until they finish wage negotiations with county employees and find out what members of similar boards are paid.
