During its Tuesday, June 19 meeting, the LUHSD board of trustees accepted Cutler’s resignation, effective July 1, as the district’s superintendent.

Some of the district’s staff took the opportunity to share the positive things Cutler has done for the LUHSD in the last three years.

In closing out his principal’s report, Tom Ready said “I’m appreciative of the vision and implementation (Cutler) brought to the district in our professional development program.”

Ready said he wanted tospecifically point out the leadership opportunities Cutler provided the teachers and the work consultant Roy Casey did with the teacher leaders in various programs.

“Though (Cutler) will leave the district, the structure, the effects and the beliefs that I’ve witnessed in our teacher leaders provide the chance to continue the change in our system that our times demand of us,” Ready said.

Addressing the board, Ready said he believes the board understands the improvement and outcomes that now come with the professional development program Cutler has produced.

“I ask in these trying economic times that the commitmentto continue quality professional trainings for our certificated and classified staffmembers continueso that Lassen High School and our community may never look back, only forward to a higher level of service to our students,” Ready said.

Brett Mitchell, director of operations and maintenance, also talked about Cutler’s influence.

He said, “I believe that this district over the last three years has experienced unparalleledgrowth and improvement. I personally experienced the greatest period of improvement in my professional career under the guidance and often urging of Dr. Cutler, and I personally want to thank you for the value and experience and work and integrity that he’s added to my life.”

With Cutler leaving, the LUHSD board approved a day-to-day superintendent contract with Casey, who has done professional development with staff.

During a special June 26 meeting, Jeanine Thibeau, CSEA president, voiced her support for Casey to come on board and she also praised the work he and Cutler have done.

Of Cutler, Thibeau said he recognized what might be considered the lowest job to the highest job to be imperative to student success and that Cutler has helped them to believe that as classified staff.

She thanked Cutler for his work in the CSEA unit and his leadership in the office and for creating a pleasant atmosphere in which to work.
