Doyle woman arrested on 25 counts of animal cruelty

June 27, 2012 — Susan Raye Hunt, 29, of Doyle, is being charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty after an investigation revealed numerous animals in differing stages of malnourishment and neglect on her property.

According to a press release from Matt McFarland, captain at the LCSO, on June 18 deputies responded to a report regarding a severely starved dog.

Upon arrival and through investigation it was learned the animal had been rescued from a Doyle residence.

McFarland said deputies and animal control officers from the Lassen County Department of Public Works went to the residence located on the Doyle Grade where they discovered approximately 23 dogs, five cats, one horse, two goats and several other animals in differing stages of malnourishment and neglect, as well as several dead animals.

Hunt was contacted and subsequently arrested.

According to McFarland, animal control officers, with assistance from the deputies, seized approximately 61 animals which included dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, geese, rats, ferrets and birds that were placed in foster care or transported to the animal shelter where they are receiving necessary care.

I would like to know if there was a brown male border collie that was captured from her property as well. His name is Lucky and I have been trying to get her to let me take him for over a year now to socialize him and get him adopted. I would also like to know when the animals will be adoptable?

I do agree that she should not be able to own animals again. I do think though that if she does then it should be limited to only one animal so that she can't have this many again. I know that Lucky is terrified of people and I work really well with the dogs like that. I currently have one of hers.
