Rescued bobcats released into wild in Lassen County

April 25, 2013 — After receiving months of care and rehabilitation, Chips the bobcat has been released back into the wild.

Chips and her den mate Sierra, who was rescued from Sierra Army Depot in September, were freed into Lassen County, Saturday, April 19, according to Nan Powers, of the Sierra Wildlife Rescue.

Initial information said the bobcats were taken to Humboldt County.

 

Trail Care Crew presentations this week in Susanville

April 24, 2013 — Presentations exploring the positive relationships between communities and their trail systems will be occurring in Susanville Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27. Subaru-International Mountain Bicycling Association Trail Care Crew will conduct the presentations.

Trails as community assets can improve quality of life and livability in a community for both biking and non-biking members. Mountain biking can attract significant tourism dollars in addition to increasing the overall quality of life.

  

Prescription drug drop-off scheduled for Saturday, April 27

Wednesday, April 24 — The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office  and the Drug Enforcement Administration is offering the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Walgreens Pharmacy in Susanville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

April 24, 2013 — A local resident is hosting a letterboxing event where teams will race around looking for clues in order to win the grand prize.

Vina Jiminez, a letterboxing enthusiast, and her co-conspirator are planning the family-friendly gathering, which she described as being similar to the television show, The Amazing Race.

April 23, 2013 — Last week several graduates from the 1988 class of Lassen High School and their spouses met in Boston for a reunion of sorts. Some were running in the Boston Marathon. Others were there as spectators to cheer them on.
