Doyle resident recognized for service

Wood

June Wood

June 5, 2012 — Many people have no idea how many volunteers it takes to put on an election.

From delivering booths to polling sites to helping disabled people make their vote count — poll workers (also called election officers) know that volunteering their time is one of the most important things they can do to keep democracy running smoothly.

June Wood, of Doyle, has devoted her time and talents to making a difference in our community for the last 68 years of her life, which makes her the second longest-serving poll worker in the state.

In recognition of her hard work and dedication while volunteering as an election officer, Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante presented Wood with a certificate and letter of commendation at an election officer orientation meeting Thursday, May 31.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen recently “asked California’s county elections officials to single out their longest-serving election day veterans, who have distinguished themselves by their exceptional dedication to serving their community as poll workers.”

In the letter of commendation, Bowen thanked Wood for her “exemplary service” and said Wood had inspired her and “the county elections officials and poll workers who have had the pleasure of working with you over the years.”

I remember you from the senior citizen's building. Every time I go over you and the rest of the ladies there are so helpful and friendly. Thank you June for being a part of our community.
