Four gigantic steam boilers being transported to Eagle Lake fell off a horse-draw wagon in the middle of Main Street. The boilers blocked traffic for nearly two days because there were not enough men to help push them to the side.

June and James McDonald filed a lawsuit against Susanville for special and general damages resulting from an airplane crash over Susanville Municipal Airport. The McDonalds’s plane plummeted to the ground after it got tangled in power lines, injuring June.

City and county law officials arrested four Lassen College students by a residence on Alexander Avenue.
They were charged with possession and intention to sell marijuana. The bust was prompted after one of the students bought marijuana from an undercover narcotics agent.

The Lassen County Board of Supervisors has voted to explore all the options available for a juvenile hall to house Lassen County’s youthful offenders.
During last week’s board meeting, Chief Probation Officer Kay Dieter recommended the supervisors “immediately explore the possibility of demolition of the old jail and new construction of a special needs juvenile hall to build on the site.”
With the adoption of Proposition 52, funds are now available to counties to provide for such detention sites.
Lassen County has a tentative amount available of $24,800, with a required matching amount of 25 percent.

Lassen County Treasurer Bea Price last week heatedly denied that a court house burglary was partly her fault.
At the May 27 meeting, Price said she shouldn’t share any blame for the theft of almost $3,000 in cash and checks from the Lassen County Courthouse on April 30.
Collections Department employee Shirley Johnson-Wright said she did not know how the burglar got into the courthouse, but felt the door to her office had been tampered with and opened.
After that, the burglar got keys from the office and opened a file cabinet where the checks and cash were located.

Four trustees from the Lassen Community College District face recall. A group calling itself Citizens Concerned About Lassen Community College served three trustees with notices of Intent to Circulate a Recall Petition at the board’s Tuesday, May 22 meeting. A fourth trustee who was not present at the meeting was served by registered mail.

The mother of a pilot who died in a plane crash 25 miles outside of Reno, Nev. confirmed her son was a 1981 graduate of Lassen High School.
Jeanette Ling said her son, Eric Allen Ling, 47, was helping two people fly to New Mexico during Memorial Day weekend. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the other two victims as 29-year-old Paula Hincapie and 41-year-old Hector Moreno, both of Everett, Wash. According to Ling, her son had never met the couple. She said they walked into the Roseburg Airport looking for someone to help them.
