Supes asked to be honest with the public

Westwood resident Eileen Spencer, a representative of a community bulletin board website, filed a complaint Tuesday, May 14 alleging the Lassen County Board of Supervisors violated the Brown Act, California’s Open Meeting Law, because the board said it was going to discuss the Dyer Mountain litigation in closed session, but her group believed the board actually was going to discuss the delinquent taxes owed by the proposed four-season resort’s developer. “This board must stop abusing the Brown Act with these types of deceptions,” Spencer said. “This is the public’s business.” County officials told Spencer despite her allegation, the board would be discussing the item it agendized during the closed session. The board had originally planned to discuss the item at its April 23 meeting, but that discussion was abandoned when the board discovered the agenda listed the wrong court case. May 21, 2013 — California Correctional Center has played a pivotal role in the community, and Wednesday, May 15 it celebrated its 50th anniversary in Lassen County.

Susanville couple killed in plane crash

May 20, 2013 — A Susanville couple lost their lives Saturday night when their single engine airplane crashed near the Auburn Municipal Airport in the Sierra foothills.

Susanville Airport Manager Steve Datema confirmed Bruce and Kathy Rhymes, of Susanville, were killed in the crash, but he couldn’t provide more information.

Susanville Taxi agreement to be terminated

The Lassen Transit Service Agency has been given 30 days notice of termination of the Agreement between Susanville Express Taxi and the agency. Taxi service that was provided under this Agreement will no longer be available as of June 2, 2013.

Dial a Ride service is available for your immediate use, as well as after the June 2 discontinuation of taxi service. Any vouchers you purchase for use on the taxi will be honored by the Dial a Ride service. Dial a Ride service hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There is no Sunday service.

May 18, 2013 — The Texaco Country Showdown is America's largest Country music talent show and is designed to find the most promising country music talent in the nation and to give these performers a chance to launch their professional music careers.

The Country Showdown begins each spring with over 450 local talent contests sponsored by country music radio stations throughout the U.S. Once again Susanville’s KJDX/KSUE is sponsoring the local competition.
