Passenger dies in semi accident on Highway 44
May 16, 2012 — According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, James Parsons, 41, of Lenoir, N.C., was driving a semi-truck with a trailer, traveling eastbound on Highway 44, west of Highway 36.
At approximately 4 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 16, for reasons yet to be determined, Parsons allowed his vehicle to drift off of the roadway and down the embankment where it collided with several trees.
The vehicle overturned, partially ejecting the passenger who was in the sleeper berth of the truck.
The 43-year-old passenger, a man who has yet to be identified, of Morganton, N.C., sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Parsons reported no injuries.
