Undercover buy program nets nine suspects, small amount of drugs

May 16, 2012 — Tom Downing, Susanville’s police chief, said his department recently completed an undercover drug buy program and as many as nine suspects are in custody or being sought.

“We’re looking for or already have arrested six juveniles and three adults,” Downing said.

A search warrant also has been served on a Lowry Street location.

An undercover Susanville police officer worked the program in an attempt “to target people selling drugs to our youth. That was the plan. It ended up being youth selling to our youth in and around the park and the high school area,” Downing said.

The program did not purchase any large quantities of drugs, but in some cases suspects made multiple sales.

One of the juveniles is not a Lassen High School student, Downing said.

The chief said the department will release more information soon.
