Sierra Army Depot accepting applications for temporary positions

May 2, 2012 — Sierra Army Depot Civilian Personnel Advisory Center will be accepting resumes for temporary positions to support the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) through May 14. Sierra has been given the approval to hire approximately 250 temporary employees.

Applications will only be received by mail or can be placed in a drop box at Sierra Army Depot Pass and ID Office during normal working days — from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The work schedule for these positions is 10 hours per shift with one half hour for lunch. The shift could be either day, night or rotating.

You must be at least 18 years old and a United States citizen and successfully complete a security background check.

If applying for Wage Grade/Wage Leader/Wage Supervisor (WG/WL/WS) positions, you must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds on a regular and recurring basis and have a current valid state driver's license.

Wage Grade positions are contingent upon the successful completion of a medical physical exam, and a urine analysis test for drug screening.

All positions entitle you to federal benefits such as retirement, life insurance and health benefits.

Interested applicants can either go to the Workforce Alliance located on Chestnut Street or to Sierra’s website at sierra.army.mil and click on the “We are hiring” button for additional information on how to apply and a list of positions.

I suppose a temp job is better than nothing, it is a loophole around the federal hiring freeze By law an applicant can submit an online application via usajobs.gov, SIAD cannot require only hand or mail delivered applications- they are violating federal law-the SIAD CO should know better.

I agree with Rancher. That is some great new,s. Uncle June Bug!Even though it may be temporary, these job,s could prove to be perminent if the worker,s do thier best and work hard. They may even be able to transfer to another full time location. Yahoo. It,s another right direction for Lassen County

The point of my comment above is that SIAD is violating federal hiring laws by requiring hard-copy applications- that is both illegal and discriminatory. How can a soldier or sailor who is deployed mail or hand-deliver one's application? That is discrimnation-Colonel Dexter?

I too noticed that the applications can only be mailed.

That does not seem fair to someone who is overseas.

Something smells fishy, are these positions union jobs that are being held for relatives?

We are growing but can't hire permanents so we do what we can with limited resources.
