June 6, 2012 — Wednesday morning Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante said her office is still processing about 1,500 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots. A canvas of the election begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, and Bustamante hopes to have that completed by Friday afternoon. An audit also will be conducted by three outside individuals who verify the election results and hand-count some ballots from every race. Here are the results as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6.

Lassen County Superior Court Judge

Five candidates seek the Lassen County Superior Court Judge seat. Bob Burns garnered 2,247 votes (32.75 percent), Jon A. Nakanishi garnered 1,860 votes (27.11 percent), Tony Mallery garnered 1,490 votes (21.71 percent), Peter M. Talia garnered 687 votes (10.01 percent) and Stephen King garnered 570 votes (8.31 percent). Eight write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters will face each other in the November general election.

Lassen County Board of Supervisors

In the district 1 race, incumbent Bob Pyle leads challenger Jean Hodge by only 29 votes. Pyle garnered 821 votes (50.74 percent) and Hodge garnered 792 votes (48.95 percent). Five write-in votes were cast. The top vote getter will be elected.

In the district 2 race, incumbent Jim Chapman leads challenger Stephen Pezzullo by 129 votes. Chapman garnered 627 votes (55.24 percent) and Pezzullo garnered 498 votes (43.88 percent). Ten write-in votes were cast. The top vote getter will be elected.

In the district 4 race, three candidates sought the seat abandoned by Brian Dahle as he ran for the state assembly. Aaron Albaugh garnered 766 votes (59.94 percent), Kurt Bonham garnered 358 votes (28.01 percent) and Thomas H. Spanton garnered 150 votes (11.74 percent). Four write-in votes were cast. The top vote getter will be elected.

Susanville City Council

Seven candidates ran for three at-large seats on the Susanville City Council. Challenger Brian Wilson garnered 1,326 votes (25.41 percent), incumbent Lino P. Callegari garnered 807 votes (15.47 percent), challenger Nicholas McBride garnered 800 votes, (15.33 percent), challenger David French garnered 706 votes (13.53 percent), challenger Michael Haldane garnered 692 votes (13.26 percent), incumbent Joseph Franco garnered 436 votes (8.36 percent) and incumbent Douglas Sayers garnered 434 votes (8.32 percent). Seventeen write-in votes were cast. The top three vote getters are elected.

State senate

Four candidates ran for the First Senate District seat. In the Lassen County vote, incumbent Ted Gaines (R) garnered 3,955 votes (61.36 percent), J. Griffith-Flatter (D) garnered 1,452 votes (22.53 percent), Les Baugh (R) garnered 743 votes (11.53 percent), and “Bo” Ambrozewicz (NPP) garnered 282 votes (4.37 percent). Fourteen write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, Gaines garnered 80,621 votes (48.2 percent) and Griffith-Flatter garnered 51,208 votes (30.6 percent).

State assembly

Five candidates ran for the First Assembly District seat. In the Lassen County vote, Brian Dahle (R) garnered 3,860 votes (57.93 percent) Rick Bosetti (R) garnered 1,170 votes (17.56 percent), Robert Meacher (D) garnered 1,066 votes (16.00 percent), Charley Hooper (LIB) garnered 313 votes (4.70 percent) and Dave Edwards (GRN) garnered 241 votes (3.62 percent). Thirteen write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, Dahle garnered 29,965 votes (34.2 percent) and Bosetti garnered 24,786 votes (28.3 percent).

First Congressional District

Eight candidates ran for the First Congressional district seat. In the Lassen County vote, Doug La Malfa (R) garnered 2,235 votes (34.51 percent), Sam Aanestad (R) garnered 1,626 votes (24.91 percent), Jim Reed (D) garnered 1,094 votes (16.76 percent), Pete Stiglich (R) garnered 694 votes (10.65 percent), Nathan Arrowsmith (D) garnered 284 votes (4.35 percent), Gregory Cheadle (R) garnered 263 votes (4.03 percent), Gary Allen Oxley (NPP) garnered 188 votes (2.88 percent) and Michael Dacquisto (R) garnered 113 votes (1.73 percent). Twelve write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, La Malfa garnered 47,846 votes (37.70 percent) and Reed garnered 31,836 votes (25.1 percent).
