June 5, 2012 — Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante says the final results in today’s June 5 presidential primary election may not be tabulated and verified until Friday when all the vote-by-mail ballots turned in to polling places and provisional ballots have been counted, but here are the results as of about 10 p.m. on election day.

Lassen County Superior Court Judge

Five candidates seek the Lassen County Superior Court Judge seat. Bob Burns garnered 1,778 votes (32.62 percent), Jon A. Nakanishi garnered 1,451 votes (26.62 percent), Tony Mallery garnered 1,193 votes (21.89 percent), Peter M. Talia garnered 556 votes (10.20 percent) and Stephen King garnered 466 votes (8.55 percent). Seven write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters will face each other in the November general election.

Lassen County Board of Supervisors

In the district 1 race, incumbent Bob Pyle leads challenger Jean Hodge by only 27 votes. Pyle garnered 693 votes (50.84 percent) and Hodge garnered 666 votes (48.86 percent). Four write-in votes were cast. The top vote getter will be elected.

In the district 2 race, incumbent Jim Chapman leads challenger Stephen Pezzullo by 120 votes. Chapman garnered 461 votes (56.91 percent) and Pezzullo garnered 341 votes (42.10 percent). Eight write-in votes were cast. The top vote getter will be elected.

In the district 4 race, three candidates sought the seat abandoned by Brian Dahle as he ran for the state assembly. Aaron Albaugh garnered 533 votes (54.84 percent), Kurt Bonham garnered 307 votes (31.58 percent) and Thomas H. Spanton garnered 128 votes (13.17 percent). Four write-in votes were cast. The top vote getter will be elected.

Susanville City Council

Seven candidates ran four three at-large seats on the Susanville City Council. Challenger Brian Wilson garnered 1,011 votes (25.01 percent), incumbent Lino P. Callegari garnered 633 votes (15.66 percent), challenger Nicholas McBride garnered 579 votes, (14.32 percent), challenger David French garnered 570 votes (14.10 percent), challenger Michael Haldane garnered 542 votes (13.41 percent), incumbent Joseph Franco garnered 340 votes (8.41 percent) and incumbent Douglas Sayers garnered 358 votes (8.86 percent). Nine write-in votes were cast. The top three vote getters are elected.

State senate

Four candidates ran for the First Senate District seat. In the Lassen County vote, incumbent Ted Gaines (R) garnered 3,127 votes (60.60 percent), J. Griffith-Flatter (D) garnered 1,217 votes (23.59 percent), Les Baugh (R) garnered 583 votes, and “Bo” Ambrozewicz (NPP) garnered 219 votes (4.24 percent). Fourteen write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, Gaines garnered 59,543 votes (48.3 percent) and Griffith-Flatter garnered 28,854 votes (31.5 percent).

State assembly

Five candidates ran for the First Assembly District seat. In the Lassen County vote, Brian Dahle (R) garnered 3,039 votes (57.25 percent) Rick Bosetti (R) garnered 924 votes (17.41 percent), Robert Meacher (D) garnered 888 votes (16.73 percent), Charley Hooper (LIB) garnered 256 votes (4.82 percent) and Dave Edwards (GRN) garnered 188 votes (3.54 percent). Thirteen write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, Dahle garnered 22,683 votes (34.1 percent) Meacher garnered 18,234 votes (27.4 percent) and Bosetti garnered 18,154 votes (27.3 percent).

First Congressional District

Eight candidates ran for the First Congressional district seat. In the Lassen County vote, Doug La Malfa (R) garnered 1,735 votes (33.30 percent), Sam Aanestad (R) garnered 1,316 votes (25.25 percent), Jim Reed (D) garnered 897 votes (17.22 percent), Pete Stiglich (R) garnered 562 votes (10.79 percent), Nathan Arrowsmith (D) garnered 238 votes (4.57 percent), Gregory Cheadle (R) garnered 212 votes (4.07 percent), Gary Allen Oxley (NPP) garnered 156 votes (2.99 percent) and Michael Dacquisto (R) garnered 83 votes (1.59 percent). Eleven write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, La Malfa garnered 35,276 votes (38 percent) and Reed garnered 23,065 votes (24.8 percent).
