SPD promotion for Wood
July 20, 2012 — After a competitive testing process and the approval of the City Council on July 19, Susanville Police Chief Tom Downing promoted Matthew P. Wood to the position of police lieutenant within the Susanville Police Department (SPD).
Wood will be filling the second in command vacancy created by Downing's appointment as chief of police.
Wood began his career in law enforcement as a correctional officer with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office in February 1993.
He came to the SPD in December 1996 as a police officer. In April 2008 Wood was promoted to the position of police sergeant.
He has worked various assignments including narcotics task force agent, patrol officer and patrol sergeant.
Wood is in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management at the Union Institute and the University of California, Sacramento.
"Wood’s leadership ability, training and experience have prepared him for this new role," Downing said. "I have high expectations for Wood, and believe he will be a great addition to the management team."
