Tom Chow, a Chinese cook, shot and killed Tom Luey, a Chinese waiter, at the Johnstonville Restaurant.
Chow, who was fired earlier that morning by owner Bob Johnston, walked into the restaurant’s dining room and shot Luey in the leg. The bullet pierced an artery, causing Luey to bleed to death. Sheriff Cady later apprehended Chow walking through the neighborhood with the gun.

The community celebrated Teacher Institute Week, a countywide acknowledgement of the efforts of schoolteachers. Also, a few new teachers were welcomed to select schools in the area. According to the newspaper, these additions give a greater sense of credibility to local education efforts.

Voting officials were reportedly masterminding a crooked effort to defeat the Republican party in Northern California. Those in charge of counting ballots wore rings with tiny stamps. As they unfolded the Republican ballots, they quickly pressed the stamp on the face of the ballots, thus eliminating it from being counted.
