Now’s the time to close the valve in the Bly Tunnel

Jan. 17, 2012 — The water flowing out of Eagle Lake’s Bly Tunnel has become a political hot potato issue over the past year by and between a number of governmental agencies, private groups and the Lassen County Board of Supervisors.

For a number of years, the board has sought reasoned discourse on the matter — discussions based on facts and science rather than emotion.

Balancing the national ballot process

Jan. 17, 2012 — It’s amazing what you can learn if you just stop what you’re doing and listen to what is being said. I found this to be the case Jan. 5 as the network pundits continued to rehash the Iowa caucus results.

In the midst of their circling dialogue a new fact emerged from guest Karl Rove, the former senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush.

 

Hey, you need to wake up, Old Man Winter!

Jan. 17, 2012 — I know, I know. I probably should be thanking my lucky mid-winter night’s dreams I haven’t had to scrape that funky patch of hard, crusty ice that always seems to form under several inches of snow off my windshield yet this winter.

While the temperature frequently drops a little below freezing for the morning rush hour many recent mornings, there just hasn’t been much precipitation this winter. That’s disturbing.
