May 2, 2013 — Will a high school teacher find her calling in an urban public school or decide she is more suited to the private education sector?

The answer will unfold in the comedic presentation of "Up the Down Staircase," presented by the Lassen High School drama department. The play will be performed Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4. Curtain time is 7 p.m.

A firefighter was injured during the assault to extinguish a blaze at Sierra Pacific Industry’s mill in Quincy on Wednesday afternoon, May 1.
    The firefighter, Kristapher Gunn, of Quincy, suffered broken bones in his ankle after he was blown off a ladder and fell to the ground.
    Quincy Fire Chief Robbie Cassou said Gunn was blown off by a water stream from his hose that re-coiled off the building.

5/1/2013 - A second fire broke out in East Quincy across from the Lariat Motel on May 1 around 1:45 p.m. While the fire at the Sierra Pacific Industries’ mill raged on, a mobile home was totally engulfed in smoke and flames. Firefighters scrambled to douse the flames at the East Quincy site. Nearby passersby said they saw flames shoot 15 feet high from the home of Steve Sasser. Photo by Jesse Buus
