City delays vote on Sierra Park declaration

June 15, 2013  — Susanville City Council members delayed the adoption of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the proposed Sierra Community Park at Wednesday’s open meeting.

The declaration, which was authorized by the city council in January, identified the potential environmental and biological impacts the Sierra Community Park may have on wildlife, plants and land.

 

Portola man arrested for possession of narcotics for sale

June 14, 2013 — In the evening hours of Thursday, June 13, a deputy from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for having over two ounces of methamphetamine in the Doyle area.

  According to a press release the deputy, assigned to the South Lassen County post, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 395 for a traffic violation.  The driver, John Mulhall, 43, of Portola, was the sole occupant in the vehicle.

  

Herlong parents to discuss co-op preschool to replace Head Start program

June 13, 2013 — Herlong parents are banding together to create a preschool to replace the Head Start program that ended recently due to budget restraints.

In an attempt to fill the educational needs of their preschool-age children, a group of concerned parents has invited E. Kim Coontz, co- author of “Steps to Starting a Marketing Co-op,” to speak at the Herlong Resource Center at 1 p.m., Friday, June 14.

  

You can help feed Colorado fire victims

June 13, 2013  — Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado is hosting a collection drive for citizens that have been affected by the recent fires.

Financial donations will help the food bank feed the thousands of people displaced from their homes and the hundreds who lost their homes to the fire.

Man arrested after standoff in Susanville

Wednesday, June 12 — A Susanville man was arrested on multiple charges including assault on a peace officer with a simulated firearm, resisting an officer with violence and discharging a pellet gun in a negligent manner after a several hour standoff, Tuesday, June 11.

Joseph Adair, 45, was booked into the Lassen County Jail and is being held on a $15,000 bail.

According to a press release from the Susanville Police Department,  at approximately 8 p.m. officers responded to the 500 block of Woodside Way on a report of a subject who had barricaded himself in his residence and was threatening suicide.
