Make a resolution to volunteer in 2012

Jan. 10, 2012 — Ask around any community, and you will hear many people voice a need for volunteers.

I have been creating a list of organizations in Westwood that need help in order to write a series of articles on volunteerism, and the opportunities for volunteering are great.

 

Doing lunch with Ben Wade, Superstar

Jan. 10, 2012 — Last week I had the pleasure of casually strolling into a Main Street eatery and sliding into a booth across a freshly bleached table from the mighty Ben Wade — famous for his work with the college soccer teams, the Susanville Symphony, his world-record-breaking kayak trip, a daring escape from famished, spear-toting natives on the Amazon River, a book based on his journals, another in his own write, a rock and roll movie and, of course, his participation in the Survivor reality television show.

 

Nothing like a new Christmas tradition at the homestead

Jan. 3, 2012 — For most of us, Christmas traditions come on slowly and take years and years to mature, but we and our guests had so much fun sitting around the good old Christmas table this year, cracking jokes and laughing for hours, we’ve decided to add a new wrinkle to our yearly Christmas dinner festivities from now on. Ah, a tradition is born!

 

Kudos to our supervisors for taking up the Bly Tunnel issue again

Jan. 3, 2012 — Lassen County District 3 Supervisor Larry Wosick alleges the Bly Tunnel “sucks” or “siphons” 1.5 million gallons of water a day out of Eagle Lake — an allegation that makes many experts from state and federal agencies boil with disagreement.
