Mental illness workshop to be held Friday

May 1, 2013 — The Lassen Community College Kinship Education Program presents a free workshop by Lassen Aurora Network. May is Mental Health Awareness month and the workshop is open to all community members.

A panel from Lassen Aurora Network will share their insight into mental illness and partnership focusing on parents and teachers as allies from kindergarten through 12th grade. Along with Lassen Aurora Network newly appointed psychiatrist Dr. Al French from Lassen County Behavioral Health will be available for questions from attendees. It will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 3 at the Lassen Community College Creative Arts, Room 127.

Agenda error forces supes to cancel closed session

The battle over the proposed four-season resort on Dyer Mountain near Westwood continues. Due to the requirements of the Brown Act, California’s Open Meeting Law, the Lassen County Board of Supervisors had to reschedule a planned April 23 closed session meeting with legal counsel regarding an appeal of the county’s Environmental Impact Report of the resort by environmental groups because the agenda listed the wrong court case number. The board rescheduled the closed session meeting for next month.File photo

April 30, 2013 — Lassen County’s Board of Supervisors was forced to cancel an afternoon closed session meeting after it discovered the agenda misidentified the court case to be discussed.

  

Beacon Station robbers sentenced

April 30, 2013 — Two men charged with robbery of the Beacon Gas Station were sentenced to state prison Tuesday, April 9.

Paul Carter Bauer was sentenced to four years and eight months in on felony charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary. He was also charged with an enhancement that a deadly weapon, a baseball bat, was used during the alleged crime.

Patrick Donald McKee, 27, was sentenced to five years in state prison on a felony charge of second-degree robbery. He pleaded guilty to the charge on March 26. Felony charges of burglary, unlawfully taking property belonging to another and an enhancement that a shotgun was allegedly used during the crime were dismissed.

  

Historical society, museum host open house

April 30, 2013 — Lassen County’s historical museum provides people the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local history with artifacts, pictures and stories regarding the area’s early days. 

New displays have recently been added in the museum and the Lassen Historical Society invites the public to view them during an open house at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3 at 115 N. Weatherlow St.

  

Man arrested on firearm, trespassing charges

Tuesday, April 30 — Lassen County sheriff deputies arrested a 34-year-old Susanville man on firearm and criminal trespassing charges early this morning, Tuesday, April 30.

According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, personnel responded to Tako Nee Street on a report of a break-in. The victim homeowner reported someone unlawfully entered her residence and confronted her, yelling at her. The victim fled her home to another residence and called for law enforcement.
