90 years ago

The body of an unidentified man was found in the mountains northeast of Eagle Lake.

Authorities were unable to determine the exact cause of death, but believed the man fatally injured himself while hunting alone. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh and bled to death while trying to find help.

His body was discovered about two weeks after the incident.

 

Remember When for March 5, 2013

90 years ago

Game warden F.P. Cady began circulating a petition against the sale of trout. The petition explained sales threatened to wipe out certain trout species in Northern California and alleged market salesmen who were threatening the extinction of certain species should be jailed and fined.

Cady captured one man on the banks of Silver Lake. He was reeling in more than 20 to 30 trout a day and packing them into his truck, according to Cady, so he could deliver them to markets in the Bay area.

 

Remember When for Feb. 26, 2013

90 years ago

The Lassen Grain and Milling Company filed articles of incorporation at the county clerk’s office. Susanville’s first mill was to be located within the city’s limits and expected to start flour productions of 53 barrels a day. The capital stock of the company was listed as $30,000.

 

Remember When for Feb. 19, 2013

90 years ago

The board of supervisors held a special session to discuss the construction of a new courthouse to replace the current structure on Roop Street. The board also reviewed different furniture to be placed in the courthouse offices.
