Parade entries for Paul Bunyan Festival sought

June 10, 2013 — Organizers for the Paul Bunyan Mountain and Blues Festival Parade are accepting entries. Currently, there are 20 entries for the Saturday, July 6 event but there is room for many more. To enter, send an email with contact information to Debbie Christie at drchristie@citlink.net or Diana DesFosses at diana.desfosses@gmail.com. There are no application forms.

The parade organizers would like to finalize the lineup one week before the event. All ideas are considered, including a group of children on decorated bicycles.

The theme for the parade is the same as the centennial events — “100 years of people helping people.” The parade is at 10:30 a.m. and the route is along Ash and Third streets.

June 10, 2013 — While trains are not foreign to Westwood, one parked on the tracks near the Visitor Center overnight caught the eye of local residents. It was not the usual freight train that rumbles through on schedule throughout the day and night but a vintage passenger train.
