Work on Highway 395 between Hallelujah Junction and Janesville begins next week

May 15, 2013 — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 2 along with contractor Central Striping, Inc. will begin work Monday, May 20 on Highway 395 between Hallelujah Junction and Janesville in Lassen County. One way traffic control with two pilot cars will be in effect weekly between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Work on this $350,000 safety project will focus on the installation of a center line rumble strip and is expected to take about four weeks to complete. Motorists may experience up to 15-minute delays.

Calfire Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit declares fire season

May 14, 2013 — The Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit of Calfire officially declared the opening of wildfire season Wednesday, May 1. This announcement is made each year to remind residents as the weather warms, fire risks increase. Calfire resources have already responded to several large and devastating wildfires this month.

May 14, 2013 — A Lassen County deputy killed in the line of duty 98 years ago was honored during a California Peace Officer’s Memorial Ceremony.

  

Driver leads officers on high speed chase

May 14, 2013 — A high-speed chase through Susanville resulted in the arrest of a local man Friday, May 10.

Derek Baker, 47, was booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of allegedly evading a peace officer, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. He was held on a $13,500 bail.

According to the Susanville Police Department, at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers attempted to stop a vehicle for suspicion of driving under the influence on State Route 139, south of the Skyline Drive intersection when Baker allegedly evaded the officer.
