Firefighters gather to honor Luke Sheehy

Members of the wildland fire community stand at attention while Luke Sheehy’s flag draped casket is rolled by at the Susanville Airport. Sheehy was flown from Modoc to Lassen County Wednesday, June 19. The Honor Guard, consisting of various natural resource agencies, was also in attendance. Sheehy was a member of the California Smokejumpers out of Redding and died June 10 while fighting a fire in Modoc County. John Heil III, regional press officer for the Forest Service said, “It’s a lot of deep grief for the Forest Service and the entire firefighter community … it’s a real devastating loss and everyone’s grieving right now.” Sheehy’s parents accompanied him on the smokejumper airplane he used and friends and family members gathered with them at the airport. “Our sympathies and heartfelt grief go out to the Sheehy family,” Heil said. Chris Gardner band returns to Lassen County fairgrounds

June 19, 2013 — Craving a musical, mid-week break? You’re in luck.

The Chris Gardner Band is performing 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 at the Lassen County Fairgrounds as the first of three performances in the Lassen County Art Council’s Summer Nights on the Green Concert series.

“We heard them (at the fair) and thought they would be a great addition,” said board member Roxanna Haynes. “This is an opportunity to bring live music to the area.”

County clerk sets Hanson recall election date

June 18, 2013 — It’s official. Julie Bustamante, Lassen County Clerk/Registrar of Voters, has set a Special Recall Election for the District 5 supervisor’s seat held by Jack Hanson for Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, pursuant to an order issued by the Lassen County Board of Supervisors Tuesday, June 11, to ask the question “Shall Jack Hanson be recalled (removed) from the office of County Board of Supervisors, Fifth District?”

Fire breaks out at old mill site
