Melon Munro Adcock, 84, of Westwood, Calif. died Saturday May 12 in Redding, Calif. from respiratory failure. He was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Alpine, Ark. to William and Ammie Adcock.
He was married to Helen Adcock of Arkadelphia, Ark. July 3, 1948. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army and served as a squad leader for the Headquarters 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry. He worked for Collins Pine Lumber in Chester, Calif. for more than 32 years as a forklift operator. His love of sports was evident with many years of service in the Westwood Little League, as a co-founder of the Westwood Senior Division in 1968 and as a daily watcher of ESPN. As an avid gardener, the greenhouse in the backyard will miss his daily care and green thumb.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel (Tammy) and Steven (Wendy), of Redding, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kindra Adcock, of Chico, Calif., Kevin Adcock, of Shasta Lake, Calif., Megan (Jantz) Kahl, of Redding and Marcus (Amy) Adcock, of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren, Ashton Adcock, Jaylee and Jantz Kahl, Jr., and Lucas and Logan Adcock.
He is also survived by three brothers, Bill, Floyd and Lindell and four sisters, Maurice, Velma, Wanda and Flora.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 plus years, Helen; his parents, William and Ammie; three brothers, Lester, Charles and Leroy; and four sisters, Florene, Flossie, Cleodia and Ruthie Mae.
A private family memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 2 at the Westwood Cemetery with inurnment to follow. A celebration of life will follow from noon to 4 p.m. at the Westwood Seniors Citizens Hall.
Leslie “Les” R. Dickinson
Longtime Lassen County resident Leslie “Les” R. Dickinson, 75, passed away April 27, 2012 at his home. Les was born Jan. 3, 1937 in Denver, Colo. He was the younger of two children born to Raymond and Frances Dickinson. He graduated from Borroughs High School on base, at the China Lake Naval Ordinance Test Station. While in high school he played football and ran track. He enjoyed summers in Colorado at his aunt and uncle’s ranch.
He attended Colorado State University and then served four years as a United States Marine.He married his first wife, Llaniss McClane Dickinson, in 1962.He began work for the California Department of Corrections in 1963, at the California Men’s Colony near San Luis Obispo. In 1966, he transferred to the California Correctional Center at Susanville, from which he retired after 29 years and 9 months of service.
Les was an excellent bowler, life master in bridge, fly fisherman and ping-pong player.He also enjoyed dancing, reading Louis L’Amour books, barbecuing and teasing the ladies.
He is survived by his third wife, Norina Egan Dickinson, whom he married in 2006; sister, LaRene (Jim) Dyer, of Provo, Utah; children, Suzanne, Michael (Tina), and David Dickinson, of Redding. Les had three grandchildren, Kristina Self, Troy Dickinson and Elise Dickinson Baldi. He also had two great-grandchildren and numerous step-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and second wife, Lila Palmer Dickinson, whom he married in 1980.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A funeral mass was held May 7, 2012 at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Chico, Calif. A luncheon reception was held at Coach House Mobil Estates Clubhouse. Interment was at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico.
His children will hold a Celebration of Life for Les this summer in Susanville. The family requests any donations in his name be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
Sharon Lee Johnson
Sharon passed peacefully from this life on May 5, 2012 with Bill, her beloved husband of 24 years, at her side.
Sharon was born on April 9, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio where she spent a number of years before moving to the West Coast where she completed school in the Bay Area. Sharon and Bill moved to Susanville in 1989. She worked for the Lassen County Welfare Department for 15 years before retiring.
Preceding Sharon in death by 16 years was her son, Rick Hieb.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Torre and Sandra’s husband, Mark; and granddaughter, Madeline. Sharon is also survived by her sisters, Linda Magda, Laura Bury, Pam Karkoff and Mary Hicks; her brother, Jimmy Hicks; and her uncle, Jim Parks. Two of the big loves of Sharon and Bill’s lives are their dogs, Lucy and Oscar, who are missing her very much.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. June 9, 2012 at the Honey Lake Valley Assembly of God Church located in Janesville on County A3 between Sears Road and Sunnyside roads. It is requested that flowers be sent or brought to the church at that time instead of to the home.
David James Ross
David James Ross, 86, of Milford, Calif. passed away May 18 at the Renown South Meadows Hospital in Reno, Nev.
David was born Dec. 21, 1925 in Susanville, Calif. to Harley and Pearl Ross.
He graduated from Lassen Union High School and Lassen Junior College in Susanville. He also attended Fresno State University.
David was a veteran of World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign where he served in the Army Air Force as an Aerial Photographer Gunner on a B-29.
After his discharge from the service, David worked for the Lassen Lumber and Box Company in Susanville, Calif.; the Consolidated Copper Mines in Kimberly, Nev.; and as a Highway Design Engineer with the Nevada Department of Transportation, retiring with 23 years of service.
Upon retirement, David spent the next 31 years living and working on his ranch in Milford, Calif.
He was a member of the F&AM, Lassen-Janesville Lodge No. 149 and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Marie, and his son, Gerald. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Paula; nieces, Jean (Steve) Dedrickson, Chris Ross-Griffith, and Janis Wells-Young; and by nephews, Gary (Kim) Wells and Andrew (Michelle) Ross. He is predeceased by his parents; his son, David James, Jr.; his sister, Emma Stone; and brothers, Frank and Harland Ross.
At his request, no services are planned.

Lois I. Tangeman
Lois Irene Tangeman passed away May 13, 2012 at age 87 in Reno, Nev., following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Tangeman, DVM, longtime resident of Susanville, Calif., now living in Redding; her daughters, Margaret (Ron) Lee and Lois Hale, of Reno; sons Ret. Maj. Gen. Rick (Rebecca) Lewis, MD, and John Lewis, Ariz.; grandchildren, Sherry and Ron Lee, Nick and Jacob Lewis, Jessica Jacobsen and Samantha Lewis; great granddaughter, Kiana Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1924, Lois was born in Santa Monica, Calif. She lived in Southern California until 1956 when she and “Doc” Lewis moved to Fallon, Nev. They lived there nearly 25 years. Her retirement years were divided between Susanville and Reno. She loved her family, friends, pets and cabin.
She is preceded in death by parents, Henry Barnbrock and Margaret Alice Oliver Barnbrock; sisters, Jeane Burke-Foley and Eleanor Moss; and former husbands, Ret. Maj. Richard B. Hale and John S. Lewis, DVM.
The family would like to thank the loving and caring people at Senior Helpers, the Emeritus at the Seasons, Vista Care Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Nevada.
A private celebration of her life will be held at the family cabin.
