Burglary victim assists in suspects' arrest
Robert Craig II, 20, and Tommy Hernandez II, 22, were booked into the Lassen County Jail and are both being held on $30,000 bail.
Craig was booked for burglary, conspiracy and vandalism. Hernandez was booked on the same charges as well as attempted arson.
According to Kevin Jones, a sergeant with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), deputies responded to the Johnstonville home of Charles Clingensmith, Saturday, July 7 on a report of a prior burglary.
Investigation showed the suspects forcibly entered the residence, ransacked and vandalized the home, stealing multiple items.
Jones said on Wednesday, July 11, Clingensmith contacted the sheriff’s office to report he located the possible suspects.
Deputies responded to the Johnstonville area and found Clingensmith had detained two men who allegedly possessed stolen property from his residence. Hernandez and Craig were subsequently arrested.
As the investigation continued, deputies assigned to the case were able to retrieve the majority of the property taken from the residence, according to Jones.
Clingensmith and his family came home Saturday, July 7 and found their home ransacked.
Clingensmith alleged the suspects rifled through their stuff and he and his wife’s bedroom, closet and bathroom were egged, gasoline was poured on their bed and clothes, dishes were smashed, soap was poured on the furniture and TVs were ripped off the walls.
Some of the items taken were his wife’s family heirlooms, the couple’s wedding rings and military coins.
Earlier this week, Clingensmith was handing out flyers and posting information on Facebook in an effort to make people aware and possibly get the stolen items returned.
He said they wanted the coins, heirlooms and wedding rings, the other items were replaceable.
