District attorney rejects grand jury recommendations

Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 — Lassen County District Attorney Stacey Montgomery declined to follow a pair of recommendations from the Lassen County Grand Jury seeking investigations into actions by the Lassen County Board of Supervisors because action by her office is unwarranted, unreasonable or not in the interest of justice.

Montgomery’s response, included in a Sept. 16 letter to Michele Verderosa, presiding judge of the Lassen County Superior Court, contains language similar to the board’s response to the grand jury from last month.

The grand jury recommended the district attorney’s office review two alleged incidents — a conflict of interest by a seated member of the board of supervisors regarding the sale of property in Herlong and the addition of an emergency agenda item necessary to place a ballot measure for emergency medical services in the North County on the June ballot.
