Trust announces Caribou Hike
Wednesday, May 27, 2015 — Discover Lassen County by joining Lassen Land and Trails Trust on a hike in the Caribou Wilderness on Saturday, May 30. Meet at the historic Susanville railroad depot at 8 a.m. Hikers from the west side of the county can meet at 9 a.m. at the junction of A-21 and County Road 110, just north of the Susan River crossing.
This hike goes from Cone Lake to Caribou Lake and is rated easy to moderate. It is 6.8 miles and passes by many scenic lakes and has a gentle elevation gain of 642 feet. The 20,546-acre Caribou Wilderness is a broad volcanic plateau. Elevations range from 6,400 to 8,374 feet. It was one of the first wildernesses designated by the 1964 Wilderness Act.
