Junior Fishing Derby held Saturday

Tuesday, April 14, 2015 — OK kids, now’s your chance. It’s time to break out those old rods and reels and see what you can catch at the 26th annual Junior Fishing Derby sponsored by the Lassen Sportsmen’s Club on Saturday, April 18.

The fishing derby, the only one of its kind in the state of California held the week before the stream fishing season officially begins, is open to children between the ages of 2 and 15. Adults may help the youngsters and teach them the finer points of fishing and even help them cast and net the fish, but they may not fish for them. Adults caught fishing are subject to citation and fine from game wardens.

Participants can fish in the Susan River and along Piute Creek as it flows through Memorial Park.
