CHP seeking information on hit and run accident

Monday, May 5 — The California Highway Patrol is seeking information regarding a hit and run accident that occurred on Highway 395 near Buffum Lane at approximately 5:15 a.m. Monday, May 5.

According to the CHP, the victim, Bryan Ries, 33, of Susanville, described the suspect vehicle as a red, full-size truck, possibly having a bumper sticker on the rear and it sounded like it had a gas motor with a loud exhaust. The truck should have a scratch on the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Ries was riding his bicycle south on the fog line when he was struck from the rear by the truck, the CHP said.

Structure fire update

Friday, May 2 — A fire that heavily damaged a residence in the Susanville area has been determined to be human caused and accidental in nature, according to a press release from the Susanville Fire Department.

The press release said the Thursday, May 1 blaze that required a multiple agency response, started outside of the home and spread into the structure and a shed.

The Susanville Fire Department responded at 5:40 p.m. for a reported smoke check in the area of Covina Avenue and Upland Street. While responding engine 623 was enroute and dispatch notified the crew the incident was a possible escaped debris burn threatening a structure. Upon arrival, firefigthers found a fully involved residential structure fire.

Dollar General celebrates grand opening of Susanville store

Tuesday, April 29, 2014 — Dollar General will celebrate the opening of its new location at 2450 Main St. in Susanville at 8 a.m. this Saturday, May 3 with free prizes and special deals.

Susanville Elks Lodge elects its first woman Exalted Ruler

Tuesday, April 29, 2014 — The Susanville Elks Lodge took a historic step when it selected a woman to serve as its Exalted Ruler earlier this month.

“I am the first woman Exalted Ruler of our lodge here in Susanville in 93 years,” said Connie Stovall. “I’m very proud of that.”

Stovall said it’s only during the last 15 years or so that women have been allowed to join the lodge.

Like any good leader, Stovall has goals she would like to accomplish during her term as Exalted Ruler.
