Chowder cooks sought for Westwood
Wednesday, Jan. 7 — The Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting families, friends, businesses, organizations and agencies to bring their best chowder recipe to the cook-off Saturday, Jan. 17. The first chamber-sponsored event for the New Year will be held in the parking lot at the Westwood Visitor Center located at the corner of Third and Ash streets, next to the railroad tracks.
To participate, download a form from the chamber’s website (westwoodareachamber.com) or pick one up at Young’s Market, To Dye For Salon or Westwood Visitor Center (open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday).
Cash prizes will be awarded this year to the winners of the competition. The judge’s choice, selected by qualified judges in a blind tasting, will be given to the overall winner as well as teams that place second and third. There is also an award for popular vote, selected by everyone who purchases a tasting kit at the event. All chowder teams are encouraged to decorate their booth in a theme that fits their chowder. Each booth will be judged and one team will receive an award for Best Decorated Booth.”
