Sheriff's department in pursuit of home invasions suspects in Graeagle

8/12/2010
11:00 a.m. Update
The remaining suspect in the Reno home invasions has been apprehended on Maidu Trail in Graeagle just minutes ago.  We will have more information as it becomes available.

10:30 a.m. Update
Exclusive interview by cell phone with Plumas County Sheriff Greg Hagwood from the scene:

He reports the incident began with a burglary at an unoccupied home in Washoe County. When the burglars realized that law enforcement had surrounded the home, they hot wired a 2009 Ford Shelby Cobra Mustang in the garage and crashed through the garage door, nearly striking law enforcement personnel. Hagwood called the action "desperate' and said it indicated a real "propensity for violence."

Stolen in the burglary were numerous semi- and fully automatic weapons. Officials recovered one weapon near Nervino/Beckwourth that they believe was discarded.

A high-speed chase ensued, leading to Graeagle, where, at around 8 a.m. this morning two female suspects were apprehended and the vehicle was recovered. A male suspect is still at large and considered armed and dangerous. Hagwood asked residents to avoid travel in the area of the search, near Yonkalla and Wishram. Traffic through Graeagle is unaffected. The sheriff also asked residents to lock their houses and vehicles, as the suspect is considered adept at stealing cars.
