Grizzlies win two big games
"This week was huge," Lassen head baseball coach Bryan Neagle said. His Grizzlies defeated Oroville 3-2 and Las Plumas 11-10 in extra innings to grab hold of the top spot in the Westside League.
"Two of the toughest teams in the league traveled here and we were ready to win," he said. "So much was riding on this week."
Corning came into the game with a grasp on first place, but coupled with the loss to Lassen and a 6-2 loss to Oroville last Friday, put the Grizzlies in first place with one league game to play.
Against Oroville, Jon Schluach pitched seven strong innings and a textbook play in the seventh prolonged the game into extra innings. Chuck Mahan, Neil Dockery and Kyle Coker hooked up a relay that squashed a run on a double to left. Lassen's Anthony Dickerson launched a walk-off home run in the ninth inning to win the game.
Against Las Plumas, Lassen came back from a 10-3 deficit in the sixth inning, scoring twice in the sixth and five times in the seventh. Two innings went by before Jason Haskill, who sparked the seventh inning rally, singled in Dickerson for the win.
