LHS JV boys win; varsity falls short
Lassen High School's varsity boys track and field team missed out on a Westside League title by less than two points, while the junior varsity boys captured the crown. The varsity boys came up 1-1/3 point short despite several strong performances by Taylor Polan, Mike Duffy, Andrew Thomas, T.J. Cowan and Erik Edholm.
Polan edged Lassen freshman Chris Fisher by one-tenth of a second to win the 100 meters with a time of 11.3. He also anchored the winning 4x400-meter, 4x100-meter relay teams, and took third in the 200 meters.
Duffy won the 800 meters and 1,600 meters, and was third in the 3,200 meters.
Thomas was first in the long jump (16-4) and took fourth in the 100 meters at 12.2.
Cowan's 110 hurdle run of 15.5 gave him first place. He settled for fourth in the long jump at 18-8 1/2.
Edholm took second in the 110 hurdles.
Seth Anderson posted three first-place finishes to lead the JV boys. He won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters, and was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team which took second.
Brian Morrish was first in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Robert Clark won the shot put and finished behind teammate Nathaniel Mihoch in the discus.
The JV girls took second in the WSL. Riki Lowe won the 110 hurdles, took second in the 300 hurdles and helped anchor the winning 4x400-meter relay team.
Freshman Hannah Johnson took first in the long jump and high jump, and was second in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
