Thursday, April 16, 2015 — The free disposal program at Bass Hill Landfill will remain in place, a decision recently made by the Lassen Regional Solid Waste Management Authority.
The matter was addressed during a Tuesday, March 24 meeting after authority staff received an opinion from counsel Jim Curtis the free disposal program was not consistent with the intent of Proposition 26 and the California Constitution.
Authority staff presented several options for the board to consider — keep the program, phase it out or end it immediately.
“We’re charged with, and me specifically, with keeping the agency out of legal trouble. That’s one of the biggest things I do for this board here, making sure we’re legally compliant, whether we agree with it or not …” said Tom Valentino, LRSWMA general manager.
