QUESTA CALVERT
Questa Calvert was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Aug. 31, 1924. She passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at the age of 82. As a child, she and her family worked the gold fields in Baker, Ore. Her family then moved to Buffalo, Wyo., where she spent the remainder of her childhood. She moved to California during World War II and helped in the war effort working for Western Union. She moved to Susanville, Calif., in 1952. She moved to Janesville, Calif., in 1970 and resided in Lassen County for 54 years. Questa worked at the California Correctional Facility for 12 years and retired from the State of California.
Questa was a strong and independent woman whose greatest passion was painting portraits and landscapes. Her work can be seen in many parts of Lassen County. She also enjoyed gardening, photography, rock hunting and gold panning.
Questa was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Lou Spears, of Susanville, Calif.; her nephew Larry Spears, of Susanville; and her mother, Eva Miller, of Buffalo, Wyo.
Questa is survived by two sons, Darrol, of Susanville, and Quinten, of Aurora, Colo.; daughters Leslie Norvell, of Janesville, Mona Uruburu, of Janesville, and Sherry Scott, of Yuma, Ariz.; brothers Jim Miller, of Haymaker, Va., and John Miller, of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews and 22 great-grandchildren.
Questa will be laid to rest with her mother in Buffalo, Wyo. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 6, 2007 at the Walton Mortuary for all those who would like to attend.
She will be missed by all her family and all those who knew and loved her.

Theda M. Stevens, 88, long-time resident of Clear Creek, Calif., died Dec. 8, 2006, at Atria Day Palma Assisted Living, in Yorba Linda, Calif.
Theda was born Sept. 8, 1918, to Newton and Deva Moye, in Burkburnett, Texas. The family moved to California when she was 8 years old, and settled in Whittier. She retired and moved to Clear Creek in 1979, and has resided there until just this last summer when she relocated to Southern California due to medical reasons.
Before Theda retired she worked as an office manager in Whittier at Marshburn Eye Center. After settling in Clear Creek, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, and visiting with close friends.
Theda is survived by son Jim Richart, of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; daughter Patti Richart, of Jacksonville, Ore.; grandchildren Kristen Stelzriede, Gaylene Jones, and Jason Richart; great grandchildren Tessa, Tarrah, Tayler, Shanna, Alicia, Mckena, Tanner, and Kendall, and great-great grandchild Mathias.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif. A reception followed to celebrate her life. The family would like to thank everyone who was involved in her care. Her strong spirit will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Elizabeth Irene Winniford, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Renown Regional Medical Center, in Reno, Nev., on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006. Beth was born to J. D. Winniford and Irene Boshoff Winniford in Westwood, Calif., on July 7, 1934. Moving to Anderson, Calif. at the age of eight, Beth lived most of her adult life there until moving to Susanville in recent years. Beth was a very happy and loving person who adored her family and never missed an opportunity to tease you! She loved bingo with her friends at Lassen Manor, holidays, parties, shopping at Wal-Mart, cats and dogs! When Beth wasn’t spending time with family or friends she was most content rocking in her rocking chair watching “spooky movies.”
In her younger years, Beth’s hobby was making stuffed animals for her loved ones and then hand-stitched personal messages on them. Beth collected stuffed animals and hot water bottles! Beth was active with the Shasta County Opportunity Center for many years and was the first mentally handicapped person in Shasta County to own her own home through the Farm Home program.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Clint “Jr.” Morgan, and nephew, Jay Morgan.
Beth is survived by her sister La Rene Hyatt and brother-in-law Leo Hyatt, of Susanville, Calif.; nieces and nephews Clint, John, Debbie, Tiffany and Bradley, Brian and Madison, of Reno, Nev; Jon and Debbie, Michael, Michelle, Trevor and Kholby, of Redding, Calif., and Crystal, of Susanville, as well as several cousins and close friends.
In her final hours, Beth left her family a great gift, she was able to communicate that she was not afraid to meet Jesus and join her parents in Heaven. In spite of her disabilities, Beth lived a full, active and happy life and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the St. Helena Cemetery, in St. Helena, Calif. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Shasta County Opportunity Center at 1265 Redwood Blvd., Redding, CA 96003
