Zimmermann crowned Miss Lassen County, Gonzales takes reign as new ambassador
During a small reception held after the pageant, Zimmermann said she and Gonzales had already been discussing their implementation plan and what they want to accomplish this year.
Zimmermann said they would like to focus on planning activities for children, and possibly holding a play day where she can teach children about piano and Gonzales can teach them about singing.
For the talent portion of the competition, Zimmermann played, Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” on the piano and Gonzales sang Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up.”
Zimmermann, who is involved in a variety of school and community service activities, has been playing the piano for the last three to four years and said it has become an outlet for her as it takes her away from the busyness of life.
Gonzales said singing is a gift God gave him and something he has always been passionate about.
He said being chosen as ambassador was a God thing and he, too, wants to see a big curricular activity for the children of Lassen County.
Gonzales said he would also like to work with David Gonzalez who runs Lassen in Action, an organization for teens.
The theme for the night was “A Pirate’s Life for Me” and the contestants kicked the pageant off with a dance routine to “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.”
The contestants entered the pageant with 50 percent of their score already tabulated as they participated in an interview prior to the pageant and their community service scores had already been calculated.
During the pageant, contestants participated in the talent segment, impromptu question and formal eveningwear; Aarason Perry escorted all the girls.
Barnash was also awarded the Miss Congeniality award, Spencer was awarded the Most Talented Award and Zimmermann was the recipient of the Community Service Award.
Miss Lassen County 2006 Kendall Brown sang Mariah Carey’s “Hero” dedicating the song to the veterans and men and women serving in the armed forces and reflected on the past year.
As she takes Brown’s spot, Zimmermann said, “”I definitely know I have a big responsibility and know it’s not time for relaxation.”
Zimmermann has been involved in Future Business Leaders of America, Teen Court, the Juvenile Justice Commission, the Lassen County Humane Society, has been in the Best of Broadway and served as a teacher’s assistant on Lassen High School’s biology field trip to Patrick’s Point and has never earned less than a 4.0 grade point average in school.
Zimmermann and her court were required to attend fair events and will be present at various community events throughout the year.
In addition to being Miss Lassen County, Zimmermann will also serve as Lassen High’s Associated Student Body President.
Zimmermann said there is a lot more she is involved in, but always finds the time to participate in each activity.
However, this year, she said she plans to focus on being ASB president and Miss Lassen County.
