Five were lucky to walk away with their lives at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, after they were in a car that went off the side of the road on Sierra Street. Daniel Pudlicki was driving his 1995 Honda Accord at an unknown speed when he approached a sharp turn on the road.

Pudlicki, 16, of Susanville, lost control of the car while attempting to make the turn, which caused the car to fly off the side of the road and rollover onto the driver’s side in a drainage canal near the side of the road.

Pudlicki and three passengers — Conner Hansen, 16, of Susanville, Allen Aguire, 15, of Susanville and Byron Treece, 16, of Susanville — sustained minor injuries during the collision. Derek Dennis, 16, of Susanville, sustained moderate injuries, and was transported from the scene to Banner Lassen Medical Center, where he was treated.

The California Highway Patrol is still conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
