Many school board seats up for election
Interested candidates must live within the boundaries of the school district they wish to run for and live in the Trustee Area of representation.
In a notice given to school boards by the Lassen County Office of Education, it says, if the number of candidates does not exceed the number of vacancies and a petition has not been filed by Wednesday, Aug. 13 to hold an election, those who have filed papers are declared winners of the election and shall be seated at the organizational meeting of the board.
In the event no one files or is nominated or the vacancies exceed the candidates, the governing board shall appoint a qualified person at a meeting prior to the day fixed for the election. The appointees will be seated at the organizational meeting.
If no one is nominated to an office prior to making an appointment to the office, the governing board shall publish a notice once in a newspaper of general circulation, published in the district, stating the board intends to make an appointment and informing persons of the procedures available for applying for the office.
