Sharee Ileen Bass
Sharee Ileen Bass, of Susanville, Calif., died on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010.
She was born in Susanville, March 13, 1948, to David and Phyllis Bass. She spent most of her life living in Lassen County except while attending Business College in Reno, Nev. In years past she was a volunteer at the Janesville Fire Department and Lassen County Crisis line. She worked at many local businesses and for several years owned the Smart Shop in Uptown Susanville.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the many birds that flocked to her feeders. She enjoyed the outdoors and was a true lover of all that nature provided.
She is survived by her two sisters Michele Whitehead and Kathy Woodard; her lifelong companian Scott Grater; her step-daughter Dorothy Vineyard and granddaughter Ileen Gray; nephews Jason and Justin Woodard, Jesse and Curtis Whitehead and her two great-grandchildren.
The memorial service was held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary. In lieu of flowers make a donation to your favorite charity.
Wayne Alfred Gilmer
Wayne Alfred Gilmer went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 16, 2010, after a sudden illness.
Born May 16, 1944, in Pomona, Calif., Wayne was a hard worker all of his life. In his younger years, he worked as an electrician at the Nevada test site near Las Vegas and in 2005 retired from the Frontier phone company in Susanville, Calif.
He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and in retirement enjoyed hunting, fishing and jeeping with his “Cutie Pie.”
Those whose lives he touched will always hold wonderful memories of his big heart and loving kindness for which their lives were greatly enriched.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Dennis Gilmer and Milo Tuschen preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Verna Gilmer, of Westwood, Calif.; son Joe (Julie) Gilmer, of Henderson, Nev.; daughter, Tina “Whistle” (Brit) Forrester, of Janesville, Calif.; step-sons Matt (Lisa Twomey) Hamilton, of S. Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Dirk (Bernadette) Hamilton, of Corona, Calif.; brother Arvel (Stephanie) Gilmer, of Oak Run, Calif.; sister-in-law Dorotha (Milo)Tuschen, of Round Mountain, Calif.; father-in-law Ray Luoma, of Paradise, Calif.; nine grandchildren Chris, Paige and Somer Cannon, Katrina and Tessa Gilmer, Lacy, Doug, and Alexis Forrester, and Jordyn Hamilton, along with many adoring nieces, nephews and dear friends.
There will be a celebration of Wayne’s life late this spring or early summer in the great outdoors that he enjoyed so much.
Mary Lewis Roberts
Mary Lewis Roberts of Redding died peacefully in her home on Jan. 27, 2010. She was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Orange, Calif., and spent most of her young life in Susanville. At age 16, she married Robert L. Winchester, Jr., who died a few months after they were married. They had one child, Robert L. Winchester III. Five years later, she married Rollin L. French and they had two children, Theodore W. French and Sheri L. Hayden.
She married Bernie M. Roberts in 1968. She had three children, Tom Roberts, Cheryl Masters, and Virginia Roberts, and three grandchildren, Dawn Masters, Trent Roberts, and Helen Maria Locke. Mary and Bernie were the owners of the first houseboat company on Shasta Lake.
In Susanville, she worked at a dime store, Fruit Growers Mill, St. Frances Hotel, and BB Restaurant. In 1954, she moved to Anderson, Calif.. She lost her second husband in 1956, and then moved to Redding in 1958. In Redding, she worked as a cocktail waitress at the Rite Spot and the Casa Blanca.
Mary had six grandchildren, Neil and Scott Hayden, Lisa Harris, Vanessa Matthews, and Jerry and Lori French; and four great-grandchildren, Bryce and Alyssa Hayden, Trevor French, and Tyler Mead. She loved to dance, play cards, and watch old movies. She belonged to the Moose Lodge. She supported three children all by herself, and she was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Lassen Cemetery in Susanville.
Brad W. Sweet
On Jan. 24, 2010, Brad passed away at his home in Susanville. He had been a resident of Susanville since 1979. He had a long career in the auto parts business with Big A Auto, Littrell Auto Parts, and for the past five years he was commercial manager at Kragen Auto Parts.
He was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Aug. 9, 1955. He moved with his family to Seattle then Spokane, Wash. From there he moved to Reno, Nev., and Salt Lake City, Utah, before residing in Susanville. He graduated from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, in 1973. He graduated from Lassen College with AA degrees in Automotive Technology and Communication Studies in 1987.
His father Charles Sweet preceded him in death.
He is survived by his mother, Martha Sweet, of Susanville; sister Patti Alexander (husband Leroy), of Redding; nephew Nathan Sheehy (wife Lisa, children Nolan and Naomi), of California City; and niece Cara Van Elderen (husband Sean and daughter Jaida), of Twin Falls, Idaho.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010. Donations in his memory may be made to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) for Haiti.
William David Thomas
William David Thomas, 73, died on Jan. 23, 2010, at Banner Lassen Medical Center. He was born on April 18, 1936, in Floyd, Ark.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Thomas, of Susanville, Calif.; sons David Thomas, of Susanville and Jeffery Thomas, of Arbuckle, Calif.; daughters Veronica Thomas and husband Joe Fritch, of Ft. Bragg, Calif., and Evadine Jauch and husband Ralph, of Redding, Calif. Also surviving are six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at the Lassen Masonic Lodge in Susanville.
