On March 17, 2010 Billy D Clark, 80, passed away from complications from a fall suffered in January.
He is preceded in death by his brother Jim Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Welby Lavern Clark, of Milford, Calif.; son Larry Clark, of Earth, Texas; daughters Connie Leigh Webb, of Reno, Nev., Linda, and Sharon; sisters Mary Catherine Borror, of Texas and Jean Ashley Taylor, of Pahrump, Nev.; brother Dean Clark, of Forestburg, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grand children.
Bill was born in Little Field, Texas on Dec. 15, 1929. He lived in Texas until about 1962 when he moved to Carson City, Nev. and began working for his brother Jim Clark in construction. He went on to become a project manger for Solari and Sons Construction from 1968 until 1986. Bill and Welby met in Carson City and were married Sept. 17, 1971.
Bill and Welby moved to Milford, Calif. in 1986 and began work on opening the store they ran for 19-1/2 years. Stoneridge Acres opened 1988. Welby ran the store and Bill took care of the up-keep, the tenants and the endless mowing at the house.
A memorial service will be held at the Reno Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 1 p.m., on March 28, 2010, 7125 W 4th Street, Reno, Nev. 89523.
Mary C. Gomez
Mary Carolyn Gomez, 79, of Elizabeth City, N.C., died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Guardian Care in Elizabeth City She was a resident of Susanville, Calif., for 35 years and was the wife of Fabian Joseph Gomez. Mrs. Gomez had been an active parishioner of the Catholic Church in Susanville until she developed health issues. Mary did a wonderful job of keeping a home and raising three boys while her husband served our country for the U.S. Navy, until he retired and they moved to Susanville. She also loved to bowl, golf and entertain friends and family.
Along with her husband of 62 years, she is survived by three sons, Joseph Gomez, of Long Beach, Calif., John Gomez and wife Linda, of Chico, Calif., James Gomez and wife Angela, of Elizabeth City, N.C.; one sister, Parker Mae Walker; four grandchildren, Jessie Gomez, Sean Gomez, Crystal Barco and Juilee Gomez; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Susanville. Twiford Funeral Homes, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, N.C., is assisting the Gomez family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at twifordfh.com.
Melvin Ross Kastl
Melvin Ross Kastl passed away the evening of March 7, 2010 at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael, Calif.
Born and raised in rural Oklahoma, Mel was the fourth of seven children born to Eldon and Mona Sue (Cook) Kastl.
Mel made the Air Force his career and was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He retired after 21 years of faithful service to his country in 1965.
Mel is survived by his wife, Norma. They spent most of their lives together on their beloved ranch in Standish, Calif. They built the ranch together and enjoyed riding horses and farming. Mel and Norma were founding members of the Honey Lake Valley Riders.
Mel was a 50-year member of the Xenia #47 Masonic Lodge in Kansas.
Mel was a wonderful loving father to his children, Mark, Cheryl, Doug, Patricia, Bonnie and Mary Ellen.
A celebration of his life will be held on May 29 at Carmichael Presbyterian Church, in Carmichael.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
We know as sure as there is a Heaven that Dad is on a horse. We love and miss you.
Bianica (Binnie) V. Ferrari Mendoza
Binnie F. Mendoza died peacefully at her home in Redmond, Ore., on March 7, 2010. She was surrounded by family and her beloved dogs at the time of her death. Binnie was born in Greenly, Colo., on Oct. 22, 1922 to Raphael and Leeta Coleman. After losing her father in 1930, the family eventually moved to Oregon where they lived during most of her school years.
She met and married Aldo Ferrari in Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1941. After the war they moved to several mill towns, including Westwood, where Aldo worked as a saw filer until moving to Lakeview, Ore., where they remained until 1951. They moved to Corning, Calif., where they bought an olive ranch and lived there until moving to Redmond, Ore., in 1961 where Aldo started his own saw filing business.
Aldo died in 1967 and in 1969, Binnie married Lawrence Mendoza, a machinist longtime friend and resident of Redmond. They moved to Susanville, Calif., in 1969 where Lawrence worked as a machinist for the local mills, eventually retiring from his own business.
Lawrence died in 2001 and in 2003, Binnie moved back to Redmond, Ore. where she remained until her death. While in Susanville, Binnie was active in the Catholic Church, belonging to the ICF for a number of years.
She is survived by her three children Dennis (Kathy) Ferrari, of Superior, Mont., Judy Ferrari, of Redmond, and Deborah (Steve) MacDonald, of Susanville, Calif.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren — Lisa Ferrari, Terry Thayer, Rod (Buffy) Taylor, Binnie (Brian) Skidgel, Mike (Nicole) Taylor, Alan (Nitanna) Taylor, Eva Taylor, Jerry Ferrari, Lon Tittle, and Joe (Connie) Dillon all of Redmond and Bend, Ore., and Aldo A. (Annetra) Ferrari, of Lawton, Okla., and Nick (Jenifer) Dillon, of Susanville, Calif.; step-grandchildren Misty (Cory) Larimer, of Lakeland, Fla., Shane (Ali) MacDonald, of Los Gatos, Calif., Robert Leaman and Roy Leman, Rhonda Snelling, Ore.
There are 37 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren that survive her.
She is also survived by two brothers Bryce (Larene) Colemen, of Beaverton, Ore. and Jerry (Roz) Colemen, of Modesto, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her sister Audrea Colmen, in childhood and also her first child, Aldo Lamont who died in infancy. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, friends, beloved pets and a long legacy of a life fully lived.
A Catholic Mass and burial was held in Redmond, Ore., on March 11, 2010.
