Patricia Ann Hastings Marty
Patricia Ann Marty passed away quietly at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nev., on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. An extended and brave battle with cancer was ended and she has received her reward of eternal peace.
Pat was born on May 21, 1932, to Robert and Esther Hastings of Portland, Ore. After high school, she attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland and earned a degree in home economics. She worked a short career as a telephone operator with Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company before marrying Frank Marty on May 22, 1955.
Pat and Frank had three daughters, Nancy, Carol and Colleen, born 1956 to 1959, whom they raised in Oregon until 1970. The family moved to Winnemucca, Nev., that year for Frank’s work with the Bureau of Land Management. After the girls’ graduations from high school, Pat and Frank moved to Susanville, Calif., where Frank worked for the U.S. Forest Service until retirement.
Pat enjoyed community work with the Eastern Stars organization, as well as her United Methodist church groups. She and Frank traveled the Western United States and Hawaii by car and camping van. Yet, most of all, Pat’s life revolved around her family.
She was supportive and proud of her daughters’ educations, marriages and children. For family loved her and those who knew her, Pat will be remembered for her strong and resilient spirit, her love of color and music and her quiet but observant presence that always lent wisdom to those around her.
Pat is survived by her husband, Frank, of Susanville; daughters, Nancy Lewis, of Kamiah, Idaho, Carol Ferguson, of Baker, Nev., and Colleen Santor, of Reno, Nev. She had five grandchildren altogether: Heather Ferguson Almeida, Melissa Santor Henrickson, Rachel Lewis Gross, Brian Santor and Aaron Lewis, as well as one great-grandchild, Brook Henrickson. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Hastings, Jr., of Portland, Ore.
A memorial service was held at the United Methodist church in Susanville on March 12. Cremation took place and internment will be held in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore., at a later date.
