The two bridges over Susan Slough near Nat Homes’ place are in the course of construction and should be in shape for travel this week. Solider Bridge is still not established.
70 years agoSusanville’s airport, which had been more or less dormant in the past, was to be formally dedicated for public use with a two-day air show.
In addition, 25 aviation-minded youths had qualified for enrollment in ground and air classes on aviation.
The classes were part of emergency training for aviation credentials under the authority of the Federal Civilian Pilot Training Program to deepen the national defense and challenge totalitarian threats.

Lassen National Forest timber sold during the fiscal year ending June 30, totaled a record high of 210 million board feet valued at $3.95 million, an increase of 35 million board feet over the previous fiscal year.
It was the most timber ever sold from the Lassen National Forest.

Widespread student truancy and sloppy attendance record keeping was charged of the Lassen High School administration and a number of parents began coming forward to report what they felt was an attitude of disinterest by school officials.

Lassen County voters ousted District Attorney William O. Scott and District 5 Supervisor Helene Williams, effective in January.
Elected in their respective places were Susanville attorney Mark Nareau and political newcomer Lyle Lough. District 3 Supervisor John Gaither will face Jean Loubet in a November runoff. In other election news, Lassen County voters saw 10 of 17 propositions differently than voters statewide.

Lassen County’s District Attorney’s office dismissed seven felony rape and molestation charges against a Susanville man on Sept. 15 when the prosecution was unable to continue.
Antonio Cabera Landeros, 27, faced five forcible rape charges and two molestation charges for his alleged involvement with a 14-year-old Susanville girl.
The charges were dismissed in the interest of justice when the prosecution was unable to continue.
A 90-minute consentual interview between Landeros and the police was ruled inadmissible because Landeros was not given a Miranda warning.

Area businesses and agencies are bracing for the very real possibility a Rainbow Family Gathering will be held in either the Lassen or Modoc national forest.
The Spring Council convened on June 7 at Dry Creek Campground to determine the site of the July 2004 gathering, which is expected to draw 20,000 people.

Lassen County resident Ronald Eugene Bernal, 47, was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail on federal child pornography charges including possession of child pornography and participating in photography with an unclothed child.
An investigator from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents from the Reno office made the arrest in Sparks, Nev. on Friday, May 29.
According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Bernal was charged in federal court on Monday, June 1. If convicted on all counts, Bernal can be sentenced up to a life term in prison.
