John Robert Bales
John Robert Bales, 60, died on May 16, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Reno, Nev., thus ending his long battle against health issues due to exposure to agent orange in Vietnam.
John was born on July 20, 1949 at Herlong, Calif., to Robert and Una Bales. He attended Janesville Elementary School, Lassen Union High School and received his associated of arts degree from Lassen Community College.
John was a shy man and a very accomplished artist. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting in his younger years, family gatherings, old movies, old radio shows and reading. He traveled to many destinations in Europe while stationed in Germany prior to serving in Vietnam. He will be remembered for his generous nature and his great love for his numerous nieces and nephews. John never married and he considered his nieces and nephews as his children.
John is preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert L. Bales (1968) and Una Bales (1991); his sister, Cheryl Lynn Bales (1991) and brother-in-law, Doug Forrester (1998).
He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Forrester-Hansen and brother-in-law Don Hansen, of Lake Almanor, Calif.; nephews Keith and wife Darcy, of Sacramento, Calif.; Brit and Tina Forrester, of Janesville, Calif.; and nieces Aimee Haight (Steve Ferguson), of Yuba City, Calif.; Amanda and David Wobbe, of Herlong, Calif.; Chelsea Forrester (Skip Fender), of D’Iberville, Miss.; and Jessica Forrester, of Yuba City. He also has numerous other family members, including one great-great nephew and one great-great niece.
There are no services planned at this time, however there will be a gathering for friends and family to remember John at a later time.
