HEALTHCARE REFORM WORSHOP
Lassen Career Network and Plumas Work Connection are each hosting a special healthcare reform workshop featuring Susan Christensen of Christensen Insurance. In her two-hour presentation, Susan will discuss how the new law may affect your business, potential tax credits and the significance of “grandfathering” your health plan. The date in Susanville at the Lassen Career Network offices on Chestnut Street is Sept. 13. The date in Quincy at the Plumas Work Connection facility on East Main Street is Sept. 22. FAIRWAYS TO FOOTBALL
Teresa Pustejovsky, is this years golf tournament chairperson for the Fairways For Football golf tournament. She informs us the tournament is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Diamond Mountain Golf Club in Susanville. It's a fundraiser for Lassen High School’s Football program. FLEA MARKET AND RADIO AUCTION
This Saturday, Sept. 11, there will be lots going on at Robbins House of Furniture in Susanville. They are hosting one of their flea markets and according to owners Al and Joy Robbins, it will be packed with vendors. There is going to be tri-tip sandwiches, chili dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and more. To top it all off, for the first time, the Susanville Rotary Club is having a radio auction at 1 p.m. that day. There will be items such as an NFL Team mirror (with all teams represented), an original solid oak school desk and much more.
SUSANVILLE SYMPHONY ACADEMY
The Susanville Symphony Academy of Music will be on the Janesville school campus this Thursday evening, Sept. 9 for Back to School night. According to Dana Hirsche, they will have brochures, sign-up sheets and more information available. This is for music students of all ages, including adults. So if you have missed them at previous campus’s you can see them at Janesville this week.
NEW PARKING AREA
Have you been by Papa Murphy's in Susanville lately? Owners Lorin and Judy Galassi, have recently been busy having some work done to their parking lot. They not only had the junipers taken out, but they also had new black top laid down. The Galassis say this will give them more parking for their customers.
NEWEST GARDENING TRENDS
Melissa McCoy, owner of Every Bloomin' Thing just returned from a few different trade shows. She went to one of the largest shows in Chicago where she attended many different seminars. She tells us some of the new information was about helping people locally grow their own gardens. "It's really all about the newest gardening and lifestyle trends in the trade," says McCoy. She also went to a buying show in Las Vegas, where she purchased new items for the store. She tells us the gift shop will be brimming with Christmas gifts before we know it.
GIVENS' BUY D & L DISTRIBUTING
Longtime employee (25 years) of D & L Distributing, Randy Givens and his wife Terry recently purchased the distributing company. The Givens bought the business from Greg Bouchard, who owned it for a long time. Randy said he gets people asking him all the time about Greg, and he told us Greg is now in Loma, Mont. Congratulations Randy and Terry!
