Oct. 11, 2010 — Law enforcement officers eradicated 3,500 mature marijuana plants after a group of hunters reported they had found a cultivation site north of Madeline.

On Tuesday, Oct. 5, hunters reported they were walking through a canyon when they ran into a group of Hispanic males and observed evidence of marijuana cultivation, said a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers from the sheriff’s office, Lassen County Narcotics Task Force and the Bureau of Land Management responded to the area where they discovered marijuana plants as well as one firearm, extensive camping and processing facilities.
The site was secured overnight and officers returned on Wednesday, Oct. 6 to remove the plants and clean up the area.
The sheriff’s office reminds people to be aware of their surroundings while in the outdoors and to report any suspicious activity.
